Fondant

The first thing comes to my mind when asked to describe fondant is Play-doh. Just like kids Play-doh, you can make anything you want with fondant. It's very pliable and yet soft enough to consume after a couple of hours or even days. Unlike gumpaste, fondant is a lot softer and has better taste. You can make your own fondant using marsmallow, water and sugar. But, unless you have all the time in the world, my suggestion is buy it. But, if you insist on trying, here is a fondant recipe I had tried before.

I love working with fondant. You can make one of the most georgeous cake you can think of with fondant. It's pliable, you can create any kind of toppers or just cover up your delicous cake to give it that smooth and sleak looking cake just like a professional baker would. You can paint on it, you can put more fondant on it, you can pretty much do many many things with fondant. The downside is, well, I haven't seen that many people who actually like the taste of fondant. But, if you can find the "better" taste fondant, then it's totally worth using fondant.

So what should you do when deciding to use fondant? My suggestion....lots of research and lots of tries! At least that's how I got to choose my favorite fondant, which is Fondarific brand. Why? Well, I think Fondarific taste better than the other brands. Although many people also Satin Ice, my personal preference is still Fondarific brand, which by the way is also more pliable than Wilton brand. So for me, who is not a professional sculpture, that works best. It gives me time to perfect my creation without having to worry about my fondant to get dry quickly. Lastly, which I think is rather cool, they come in various taste! You can buy the chocolate color that taste like chocolate, yellow color tasting like banana, red color taste like cherry... well you get the idea!

So far the only downside with Fondarific brand is that I still have not found any place that carries them in store (at least not in Southbay area). So whenever I have a project coming up, I have to order them online. You can find them in many online stores, but I typically go to either Amazon.com or Fondarific.com. The benefit of going to Amazon.com is...well you know great site to find EVERYTHING. But they don't carry all the flavors available. So if you want to try more flavor, I suggest got to Fondarific.com.

So have fun with fondant. Bring out your inner child and make anything you want. From something silly to something cool.
